Afghanistan, Saturday, April 10th 2004: Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, the former vice president and the Panning Minster of the interim administration and transitional Islamic government, asked the International community to take serious notice of the ongoing situation in Afghanistan. He told that a close circle in the government has jeopardized the peace process. He blamed the government for using the international assistance for the abolition of the political opponent. He asked the donor to make a mechanism that their humanitarian assistance shouldn't be used against any political opponents in Afghanistan.
Second issue which he raised in his press conference was the delay in presidential elections. He said if the government had started the registration of the voters earlier, it would have finished long back. And Even if
there is delay in the election, the ongoing government doesn't have the right to rule over the country after June 2004. This government has the legitimacy to rule over Afghanistan only up to the two years after the Emergency
Loya Jirga according to the Bonn agreement. He suggested that the Loya Jirga should immediately be called to solve this issue because this is only Loya Jirga which can extend the mandate of this government.
Regarding the ongoing situation ... he expressed his serious concerns about the events in Herat and Faryab. He told that a close circle in the government is trying to manipulate and misuse the anti-terrorist
forces against their political opponents. He further blamed that they are in search of wiping out all their political opponents and probable presidential candidates before the elections.
He told that this circle is trying to deviate from the main objectives of the coalition forces in Afghanistan. He asked the Americans to be careful because few people want to push the Americans into a swamp in
Afghanistan. He told that Americans shouldn't forget that we are their true partners in the war against the terrorism and this war is not yet over. He told that if the international forces will be involved in the internal
rivalries of Afghanistan their credibility will be finished and no one will come forward to cooperate with them.
He told that Ismael Khan and Dostum are the credible people in Afghanistan and any irresponsible action against both of them will hurt the feelings of millions of people in Afghanistan.
When he was asked that if the United Front is again resurging? He replied that united front was an alliance to defend the country against the Taliban and Terrorism. It was basically a military rather then a
political alliance but this time we need to make a political alliance. He told that I had the talks with Ahmad Wali Masoud, Dostum, and Ismael Khan - our brothers in the South and the Eastern parts of the country and political
alliances are the natural and logical results of the understandings on the common issues. He requested all people from all the communities of Afghanistan to come forward and play their role against the conspiracy to again
divide the country on the basis of ethnic and territorial lines. He told that Afghanistan is home for all Afghans so it is also the duty of all of them to counter all the conspiracies against their mother land.
At last he told that now it is up to the international community either they will just sit as spectator to see the peace process to be ruined by few people or they will come forward and play their active role to
prevent any undesirable results.

Friday 12/03/2004 08:00 : Tens of thousand of angry crowd got together and expressed their support to the sacked minister and asked Karzai to resign. 12th of March is the death anniversary of Abdul Ali Mazari killed by the Taliban on the same day nine years back. Huge crowd in Mazar Sharif from today morning started marching toward the grave of Late Mazari. The anger of crowd was clearly showing that they are really very angry on the dismissal of the Planning minister Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq.
Ashraf Ramazan a famous businessman turned politician and an active member of Constitutional Loya Jirga (CLJ) told that Mohaqiq is the representative of millions of people and his dismissal from the cabinet
means that Karzai doesn't believe in the active participation of all the people of Afghanistan in the administrative setup. He told that Karzai doesn't have the right to sack Haji Mohaqiq from the cabinet because he was
appointed by the Emergency Loya Jirga as one of the key personnel of the Transitional Government who had to run the government up to the presidential election. Ramazan further told that dismissal of Mohaqiq is an open violation
of the 5th article of the 4th chapter of Bonn Agreement. He further told that we did a mistake by electing Karzai in the Emergency Loya Jirga. We hoped that he will grow up as a national leader but we are now very badly disappointed because he is proved as a narrow minded man sunken in the tribalism and ethnocentrism.
Ghulam Hussain, another CLJ member, told that if the Karzai doesn't abide by the Bonn agreement we are also not bound to it. Karzai sacked Mohaqiq from ministry we sacked Karzai from the presidency and he is no
more our president. He further told that international community should immediately take the action on this violation of the Bonn Agreement.
Mohsiny another CLJ member told "sacking of Mohaqiq shows a very dangerous trend of tribalism, fascism and narrow mindedness in a close circle of the government which will end to another crisis".
Amir Yaqoub another CLJ member told angrily "by sacking Mohaqiq Karzai proved that he is a dictator and he just want lip servers in his cabinet. Mohaqiq is sacked from the cabinet because Karzai is afraid of him
in the upcoming presidential elections.
Fayyaz Mehraeen a famous writer and intellectual told that Mohaqiq has the huge respect among all the people of Afghanistan. Though I am ethnically Tajik but I am shocked by his dismissal from the cabinet because
I am hearing the foot sound of the same Taliban in a different shape.
Saleh Mohammad Khaliq an Uzbek writer and intellectual expressed his worries over removal of Ustad Mohaqiq from the cabinet and told that this a well conspiracy against the national unity which was conceived by a
narrow minded circle who are trying to use the government resources for a grave and pestilent purposes.
Procession at last ended peace fully in the grave yard of Mazari where Sardar Saeedi, Ustad Atta Mohammad and Syyed Noorullah made the
speeches.

09/03/2004/ Tuesday 10:00 am: During a well crowded press conference on his residence, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq to the reporters that he was sacked from the cabinet because of his substantive stand regarding
the code of responsibilities of the various ministries. He told that being minister is not important for me but Karzai doesn't have any right to sack me because I was one of the key personnel of this cabinet which gains its
legitimacy from the emergency Loya Jirga.
He told that Karzai is laying the foundation of a new variety of democracy which is to kick out the ministers who has the difference of views. He further told that this thoughtless and hasty step has opened a new
phase of dictatorship.
What are you going to do now? Asked a journalist. He replied that I am a serious candidate of presidency and I will run my campaign but international community must understand that the Karzai started punishing
his rival candidates. He told that we are the people who, with the help of international community fought and defeated the terrorism from our country and I can't see any other group more serious and committed then us in the
reconstruction process.
He blamed Karzai that he is dismissing all the people from the official post who has good relation with me.
He told that from the constitutional Loya Jirga onward it is started proving that now Karzai is losing his mandate as a national leader and he was involved in influencing the Loya jirga process through same
circle of ministers and played a negative role in disturbing the harmony among the various brotherly ethnics.
Did you convey your concerns to the UN or international community?
I was always in touch with the UNAMA and all the other concerned ambassadors except for US ambassador whom I tried to meet many times but he was busy may be in some other important works.
He told that Karzai is afraid of me in the upcoming elections and I will give him a tough time. He affirmed that he is in touch with big circles of Pushtun intellectuals and they will vote for me.
Don't you feel fears of being further pressurized by the Karzai and he won't use the government power to create obstacles in the way of you election campaign?
He told that by sacking me from the cabinet he has already lapsed my ministerial immunity and I am sure that now it is proved that he will not spare any way to crush his rivals in the presidential election. Haji
Mohaqiq told that I have asked the United Nations (UNAMA) to provide me security because I am not only a presidential candidate but also a well known anti Talian/Al Qaeda figure who played very important role in toppling the
Taliban and his terrorist circuits from Afghanistan. Haji Mohaqiq told that UNAMA promised to consider this issue seriously.
